Almost 70 years ago Clyda and Veon were married. That union is why we are all here. This blog is created to capture our thoughts and help us get to know each other better. There will be a new question posted each Sunday until December. Please use contributors first names only. If you are posting anonymously please add your first name to the text. Enjoy!
Attention everyone...Marilyn has a WEB PAGE !! You can check it out at www.marilynsmithartist.com!
Nicole, please publish the following disclaimer in a prominent place:
I hesitated to make long narratives with these posts, but Nicole said she might put the whole blog thing into a book form someday, and I could use this as a forum for writing for my kids and grandkids. I can’t pass up an opportunity like that. So rather than bore you, feel free to skip anything you’re not interested in or don’t want to be bothered to read. Sonja
Note from Nicole:
I am happy to do this for anybody that is interested. I am enjoying hearing from each of you and would love to hear from more. Thanks Sonja for taking the time to work on this and giving us an opportunity to get to know you better.

Our birthdays were our personal, special days. My mom let us choose our birthday dinner. For my fifth birthday, I had macaroni and cheese with hot dogs, and for my twentieth she made crab legs and artichokes. My whole family would come over for presents, cake, and ice cream. I loved it. I loved going to everybody's birthday parties, too.

Reading, reading, reading, and playing funeral at school
I got to choose eating out or having a birthday dinner at home. I always chose cherry pie for dessert which the rest of the family didn't like or later on I chose MY favorite dessert with pistachio pudding and cool whip and pecans. For somereason one of birthdays that stands out was when I was in 7th grade. I had a new dress,Barbara ggave me a locket with a photo of Sandy (dog) in it.

I don't remember birthdays much. We must not have made much fuss about them. That may be why I started the tradition Mindy talks about, and which my kids all seemed to enjoy enough to carry it on.
I do remember getting a red patten leather purse from my sister, Genile, when I turned 9. She sent it with a birthday card that said something about an 8 year old. When I grew up she teased me about my thank you note which read "Thank you for the purse. I am 9." (I really loved that purse!)

I was rarely home on my birthday since it lands on the 3rd of July and my family would drive to San Diego every year to shoot a firework show. So my "birthday" was usually celebrated at the same time as my sister Mindy's. I actually didn't mind in fact it helped bring about a special closeness with my sister but I would occasionally feel bad because I would sense others felt bad.
I can say that to this day I love to travel and for my birthday I would love to be on the road or on a plane for a personal vacation. I would say it's a very positive imprint my birthday experience has left me.

I remember having birthday parties with friends when I was really young. Later I remember having a dinner menu of my choice and yellow cake with chocolate frosting (my favorite).

Yellow cake and chocolate icing is my very favorite, too! Mnew
Mnew, who are you?
My Birthday always coincided with Valentine' Day since it is the day before. I remember a few birthday parties and always a cake with icecream when I was little. When I was older living with Grandma S. she would let me pick my favorite dinner. I usually picked "Krab Stuff" over rice. It was my favorite.
We didn't really celebrate birthdays. My grandma would buy us a pair of pajamas, and that was about the extent of it. I had my first birthday party when I turned 17. My friend Lydia and 12 missionaries were waiting in the stairway when I got back home. I got off the elvator, and there they were!
