Duran Duran and Erasure. Were there any other bands in the 80's? :)

Oh boy! I liked the old classical jazz singers - Nat "King" Cole, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Keely Smith, etc. And the Big Bands - Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey. In the more popular genera I liked the Beach Boys, The Lettermen. Rock & Roll was just getting started. Some of the big ones were The Everly Brothers, whom I didn't like, and Elvis, whom I didn't like, and The Beatles, whom I didn't learn to appreciate until just a few years ago.

I was part of the revision and discovery of country music era. I loved to Garth Brooks, Reba McIntire, Alabama, and many more... I loved (and still do)to listen to many of the Broadway musicals (Les Miserables, Phantom, Chess)My ultimate favorite song was not either of these genera though, it was Forever Young from Alpahville. I was many times the ending to a 'perfect' stake dance...
On a side note: Much to Daphne's dismay, still LOVE country music. I even convinced her to go to a Dixie Chick's concert a few years ago (she is such a good sport.)

There were a couple of movies which greatly impacted me as a teenager and my musical preferences (Forrest Gump and Dazed and Confused) in addition to the music my parents listened to while I grew up. In the nineties, the neo-hippie and grunge wave was popular and the hair bands were beginning to fade. So, I loved music from these genres and still do. My first CDs were The Scorpions, Nivrana, 10,000 Maniacs and Blind Melon. My very favorite, however, were/are a little more 70s (Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles). I have pretty much always loved all rock genres, blue grass, jazz, etc. And go Dixie Chicks! I've seen them in concert twice!! Very fun, huh? I love old Dino, and I even like early Elvis! I suppose I like a little variety.

We didn't have bands in those days. We were lucky to have a 3 piece orchestra of anything to dance by. We had a phonograph and records but we didn't spend a lot of time listening to it. I can't remember the name of any of the people we listened to.

I took piano lessons and that was the main thing as far as music was concerned. I broke my arm in 2 places when I was 15 and it wasn't set. I couldn't practice for a year and I gave up piano. We had moved and I went to a different school that didn't have a piano available.
