What was your childhood nickname? What did your dad call you? Your mom? What did they call you when you were in trouble?

My nick name is 'Nick'. When I was in 7th grade I had a short stint when I went by Nickey but that only lasted for a semester. When I changed schools I dropped the "Nickey". It really didn't suite me.

My classmates called me Daffy Duck, Martian Duck, Mars Duck, Duck-a-Doodle, Duck Rogers from the 25th Century, and Daph's Knee. One called me Jennifer just because he wanted to call me something I had never been called before. My parents just called me Daph. I probably shouldn't repeat what I was called when I got in trouble.

I've mostly been called Mindy Lou. Since I don't have a middle name, I would tell people my middle name was Lou. My mom calls me Mind and my dad calls me Bones. Bones is from a commercial jingle that was on TV when I was a toddler. He used to sing it, "Dem bones, Dem bones, Dem MINDY bones."

The only nick name I ever had was "The baby".... because I was. And as far as my family is concerned, I still am "The baby." with all the right, privileges and responsibilities that go with being a baby. Now, really, how much credibility does a baby have? It took most of my life, well into my adulthood to feel like a grown-up. And still I’m not real sure about it. And just notice how distancing "The baby" is. It can only be indirect. No one ever addressed anyone as "The baby." You don’t say "Hey, The baby, come look at this!" No. When they talk about "The baby" it’s as if you are either deaf, dumb and blind, or you’re invisible! When Mother talked about me in the 3rd person she referred to me as "My baby." But it was always clear she was talking about me, without excluding me. And it was endearing. My mother always called me Sonja. I don’t recall Daddy ever addressing me directly. I’m sure he must have.
For a while my 6 girlfriends in high school called me Nickey (my maiden name was Nickle) but it didn’t last long. Sonja
