Almost 70 years ago Clyda and Veon were married. That union is why we are all here. This blog is created to capture our thoughts and help us get to know each other better. There will be a new question posted each Sunday until December. Please use contributors first names only. If you are posting anonymously please add your first name to the text. Enjoy!
Attention everyone...Marilyn has a WEB PAGE !! You can check it out at www.marilynsmithartist.com!
Nicole, please publish the following disclaimer in a prominent place:
I hesitated to make long narratives with these posts, but Nicole said she might put the whole blog thing into a book form someday, and I could use this as a forum for writing for my kids and grandkids. I can’t pass up an opportunity like that. So rather than bore you, feel free to skip anything you’re not interested in or don’t want to be bothered to read. Sonja
Note from Nicole:
I am happy to do this for anybody that is interested. I am enjoying hearing from each of you and would love to hear from more. Thanks Sonja for taking the time to work on this and giving us an opportunity to get to know you better.

I have dirt gardens. I have no idea how to garden, but I want to so badly! Every year, I tell myself, "Next year I will have a garden." I really want a vegetable and herb garden, but I never put much effort in learning how to do it.
I helped my mom plant flowers and helped my parents weed. My mom had a really great vegetable garden, and she was always able to use the vegetables and herbs for cooking.

We had a big garden growing up but I didn't work in it. That was my mother's job and she didn't want anyone in it. I had a big garden on Judith Street for two or three years. When the tomatoes were ripe, the children would put them in the wagon and take them around the neighborhood and give them away. On Stringham, when the children were married, I planted a small garden in part of the lawn. We also had fruit trees there--Apricot, peach, and 2 pear trees. I always plant flowers around.

I've tried growing a garden a few times. Some years have been more successful than others. The best thing I grew was mini pumpkins. They took over the yard and were a lot of fun.

We always had a garden when I was growing up. It was part of our sustainance. I remember howing potatoes with Billie once, and thinning tiny radishes, carrots and onions to make room for bigger ones to grow.
Our garden spot now is all in shade from big pines, peach and cherry trees. We have mostly gardened by default since I went back to school and started working. One of my goals in retirement is to get back to my garden. I'd like to have a garden that looks like Clyda's did but I'm not sure I have that in me.

My favorite garden was great-grandma's (Clyda). It was so beautiful! She would have the grand daughters over for lunch on the patio, and we'd swat at the hornets.

I love to garden. I think it is in my blood. Last summer I planted 13 tomato plants and loved eating the yummy tomatoes. I have blueberries and raspberries in my yard now. In our next house I hope to have a huge (like 10 acres) yard. I also love to plant flowers my biggest problem is that I plant too many and they swallow each other up. I also remember Grandma's garden on Stringham. I loved to get carrots out of the snow for her. The last year we lived in SLC Sid got me a membership to the Red Butte Gardens and I took the kids there each week until we moved. They have the best children's garden I have ever seen. Those trips made me want to visit gardens when we are on vacation. I have been to the Denver Botanical Gardens, Butcharh Gardens, Washington Park in Portland, St. Louis Botanical Gardens, and many more. It is so motivating to see what different regions specialize in and how the same plants can look so different depending on where they are grown and how they are planted.
I love to garden. Mom always let me have my own little area in her vegetable garden and now I carry that tradition on with my son, Tyrus. Flowers, veggies, fruit, orchids, I love them all. I even have a lemon tree that produces Meyers lemons twice a year! (enter Peter Paul and Mary song here)
