Almost 70 years ago Clyda and Veon were married. That union is why we are all here. This blog is created to capture our thoughts and help us get to know each other better. There will be a new question posted each Sunday until December. Please use contributors first names only. If you are posting anonymously please add your first name to the text. Enjoy!
Attention everyone...Marilyn has a WEB PAGE !! You can check it out at www.marilynsmithartist.com!
Nicole, please publish the following disclaimer in a prominent place:
I hesitated to make long narratives with these posts, but Nicole said she might put the whole blog thing into a book form someday, and I could use this as a forum for writing for my kids and grandkids. I can’t pass up an opportunity like that. So rather than bore you, feel free to skip anything you’re not interested in or don’t want to be bothered to read. Sonja
Note from Nicole:
I am happy to do this for anybody that is interested. I am enjoying hearing from each of you and would love to hear from more. Thanks Sonja for taking the time to work on this and giving us an opportunity to get to know you better.

My favorite artist is Camille Pizzaro. He was the "father of impressionists" but rarely gets mentioned. He was a quiet family man who went about selling his art wherever he could. He taught the impressionists about color. Paint was available in tubes for the first time so they were able to go outside and paint and look at the world and everyday people. Van Gogh is my favorite Impressionist because he was so intense. My favorite living artist is Richard Schmit- an impressionsit-like artist. It is hard to pick a favorite because every artist has something unique to "say".

An art history teacher made me fall in love with Van Gogh - the man and his art. I did my French research paper on him, and put together a slide show to tell about his life, using his own paintings as illustrations, and set it to "Starry, Starry Night". (I should update it using power point - if there were an audience for it). One of my favorites is his painting of his chair, another of old work boots.
One of the most poignent drawings I ever saw was titled "Death greeted as a friend" I don't remember the name of the artist. Marilyn, do you know his name?

Besides the art of nature, it is hard for me to claim a favorite artist. Especially for someone who is art illiterate. I remember enjoying Picasso when I toured his home town musee, I mean museum. I also remember thinking he was out of sync with some total abstracts.
I do enjoy much of Marilyn's art and many others. Michalanelo, or however you spell his name with the Scisteen, no I mean cistern, wait it's spitoon, .. however is't spelled, chapel...
Maybe I'll have to take an art class some day and actually know what I'm talking about other than just looking at something and seeing personal enjoyment or not.

Sonja,
"Death Greeted As A Friend "is by Kath Kollwitz. There is quite a bit of information about her on the Internet. She does not look like a happy woman.

I have an appreciation for all kinds of art (minus Thomas Kinkade-not a fan), but love Picasso and Norman Rockwell. I love Picasso because he has such a wide range of style and Norman Rockwell because his art is life-like both in subject matter and presentation.
I couldn't pick a favorite piece of art or artist. I have to decide piece by piece whether I like or don't like something, though I generally admire the artistic value in many things even if I wouldn't necessarily want it in my house. I love things that are bold, with lots of color generally. I also admire photographic art of nature scenes.
