Almost 70 years ago Clyda and Veon were married. That union is why we are all here. This blog is created to capture our thoughts and help us get to know each other better. There will be a new question posted each Sunday until December. Please use contributors first names only. If you are posting anonymously please add your first name to the text. Enjoy!
Attention everyone...Marilyn has a WEB PAGE !! You can check it out at www.marilynsmithartist.com!
Nicole, please publish the following disclaimer in a prominent place:
I hesitated to make long narratives with these posts, but Nicole said she might put the whole blog thing into a book form someday, and I could use this as a forum for writing for my kids and grandkids. I can’t pass up an opportunity like that. So rather than bore you, feel free to skip anything you’re not interested in or don’t want to be bothered to read. Sonja
Note from Nicole:
I am happy to do this for anybody that is interested. I am enjoying hearing from each of you and would love to hear from more. Thanks Sonja for taking the time to work on this and giving us an opportunity to get to know you better.

We've always had turkey because our families did that. Other than that I can't think of any. I pretty much flow with the crowd and the family. As I think about it, we didn't have a tradition of one of us going one way and one going another. We always went together or we didn't go.

I usually go to Nicole's house for Thanksgiving. Since our cousin Cheryl moved here a few years ago, we have gone to her house for dinner. The day after Thanksgiving, we get up early and go to the Black Friday sales, then go out to breakfast.

The years in Mo. we usually went to Aunt Marie's house. In Utah, before I was married, we went to my oldest sister Joyce's for a few years. When the family got too large to gather in anyone's home we rented the church.
It seems like most years, when our kids were still young we usually went to Clyda's, where the food was consistantly deliscious.
We had Thanksgiving at our house when I bacame "the grandmother." Then when Jennifer and Jerilyn had families we started getting crowded in our dining room. One year the girls and I got together at Jerilyn's and made pies and rolls and put the turkey in the oven, then came back the next day with the meal mostly done. That was lots of fun. We did it at Jennifers several times, and again at Jerilyns in the house she's in now. It's not so hard when everyone does part - and it's so fun to cook with my girls! (We get together once a month for lunch and let someone else do the cooking - me, my girls and my granddaughters. Great fun)!
The past few years, as my own kids have been the "Grandmother's House" their own kids come to, we've gone to a restaurent. One year it was Archibalds with just me, Ve and Eric. Then others started joining us. Little America is our favorite. Those who can join us do. Those who have in-laws they have to share their time with, do. This year we went to Madelines, here in South Jordan. Everyone was there but Aaron, Daniel, Alicia and her family, and Eric & Eric. (Eric went camping at Lake Powell with his girlfriend and her family). We had a good time. I think we'll do Little America next year though. Sonja
Growing up, Thanksgiving was all about the turkey and rolls and greenbeans with almonds and "real butter" and berry jam. ANd pumpkin pie with "real whipped cream". I remember when Jennifer and Jerilyn got thier first turkey bone.
I loved Thanksgiving on the coast as I could walk on the beach. One year, Wolf and I went out to dinner but missed the leftovers,so the next year we ordered a precooked dinner and got our leftovers. Wolf always made every meal into a sandwhich so I never wanted to spend too much time in the kitchen if it would all end up in a sandwhich.
In Sherwood, we would all hang out at Barbara's and eat and play games. Barbara inherited the "good cook gene" so it is always a great meal. This year, there was just me, Baarbara and Bob..so we ate dinner and went to a movie.

I could just copy Daphne's for our current traditions except that she should add that this year we were up by 3:00am and made it to IHOP in time for their .99 breakfast (before 9:00). I think the day after is the best part. This year for Christmas I made Barbara's Thanksgiving rolls. The ones she made for Thanksgiving tasted better. I will keep working on it.
