Question #52

Have you ever been to the hospital for an injury? What happened? What do your parents do when you are hurt that makes you feel better? Do you have any cool scars?

. I stepped on a needle at Barbara Westlund's house and had to go to the hospital emergency room. A doctor couldn't find my pulse.....I was breathing! The nurse asked me what country my parents were from (odd names).
. Two car accidents-survived both.
. surgical scar underneath my right arm pit (from a first rib removal), two really ugly long scars on the insides of my ankles from a surgery-learned I had keloid scarring.

The only time I've ever been in a hospital was to have babies and once to have my tubes tied. At the time it was (maybe still is) a "No! No!" in the church to have your tubes tied so I told everyone I had to have an IUD (inter-uteran device contraceptive) sergically removed.

I only have two little scars. One is from when I tipped my crib over (from inside it) and my first and only tooth went through my lip. The other is the big smile above my left knee from when I fell at the age of 3 or 4 and broke some bottled peaches my mother had cooling in front of the window. I don't remember what my parents did to soothe me. I didn't get hurt much because I didn't risk much physically, because I've always been a klutz and didn't want to get hurt. But I do remeber my mother kneeling beside me over the toilet to hold my head when I threw up. (I didn't do that much either, come to think of it).

I have not had any injuries nor been to the hospital (knock on wood). Both of my parents were sympathetic when I got hurt; hugs and kisses, and my mom would clean and bandage "the wound." When I was sick, my mom let me watch movies, made sure I drank a lot of fluids, and I think on more than one occasion, brought me a Lime Rickey from Arctic Circle (still my favorite when I'm sick). My mom also used to tickle my face to comfort me.

I have never had to spend the night at a hospital. (for my own needs) I have been to the hospital for emergency injuries, somehow they always happen when the doctor's office is closed. Once for a seizure but released. I don't know if I remember all the events; Grabbing blender blades after the small container with grahm crackers took off as I thought I was going to hold it down before it did; Bicycle turn too tight and 3 stitches to the right shin below the knee; Three stitches as I pretended to be goal keeper for a parks and rec soccer team. These don't count the times Jerry helped me need stitches from the doctor.
